I’ve always wanted to have a garden party. The kind where the tables are placed on the lawn, and decorated with beautiful laces and tea cups. I imagine I would hold it at my favorite time of day, where the late afternoon glow of the sun turns the world into a magical, golden place. The lavender would be in bloom, and bees would be buzzing happily around the buds.
I did try to have a garden party once. I obsessed about the idea all spring, as my Pinterest board will confirm, and then I finally sent out invitations. It was going to be perfect. I had a color scheme, the whole meal planned out, and all the husbands, wives, and babies I thought I could fit in our yard. I baked and cooked and stirred for hours. I made my Creamy Asparagus Pea Soup and I decorated all day with burlap runners, lace doilies, and tea cups.
And then it was 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside. So I moved the garden party moved indoors. All the husbands, all the wives, and all the babies crammed into my tiny 600 sq ft. apartment until the sun set enough for us to move the party out onto the lawn.
It was still a lovely day.
I would do it again, but maybe plan to host the garden party a little later in the evening when the temperature is just a bit cooler. I like the idea of a maybe having a dessert bar and stringing lights up across the yard and chatting outside until the fireflies come out.
This Creamy Asparagus Pea Soup would definitely still be on the menu.
It’s easy to make, can be thrown into a crock pot, and fancy enough to be on gourmet menu. You only need three ingredients, thirty minutes, and a blender to complete this recipe. The creaminess comes from raw cashews that are cooked with the asparagus and peas until tender.
Creamy Paleo Asparagus Pea Soup
- 20 spears of Asparagus
- 3 cups of Green Peas
- 3/4 cup Raw Cashews
- 6 cups of Water
- Real Salt to taste
Takes , serves four people.
- Measure water into a medium pot and turn on stove top heat to medium high
- Pour peas and cashews into water and then add asparagus.
- Bring to a boil and let cook for approximately 15-20 minutes.
- Remove from stove top and ladle hot liquids into a Blendtec blender. Blend for 60-90 seconds or until completely smooth. (You may consider straining this if you cannot get the mixture smooth enough as asparagus has a very stringy quality.)
- Return soup to pot and place on stove top for another 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from stove and allow to cool before serving.Enjoy!

Your lawn party sounds lovely….minus the heat 🙂 I love lavender and asparagus soup. Soup of all kinds, really. It’s my number one favorite food group. I like the raw cashews in this dish. Interesting. It must act as a thickening agent, correct?
Melissa, Yes! The cashews do help thicken, adding a smooth and creamy texture to the soup.
This looks so tasty. Great pics.
